First of all, it must never be assumed that Pencak Silat was brought to the    united States by only one person. Indeed, many individuals have contributed greatly, by teaching the fighting arts of Indonesia, the Phillipines, and Malaysia, in the United States and Canada.

Most of the credit goes to Mr. Dan Inosanto, who, is truly, the Ambassador of Pencak Silat, worldwide.

The pioneers, in the mid to late 50's and early 60's were: the late Mr. Willem Reeders with Serak and Feuk Chin Kun Tao Silat. The late Mr. Willy Wetzels, with Pencak Silat Cimande. Both gentlemen taught these arts in the State of Pennsylvania.

In the Los Angles area, Ozzi Von Borgen, a Tji Kalong expert was the first in 1959. Then, after that, because of Mr. Rudy Terlinden, Paul de Thouars, Victor de Thouars, Arthur Remref, and the late Jan de Jong, who introduced Dan Inosanto to Paul de Thouars. Also to Rudy Kuddings and Andre Knutskraigen. Paatje Oss and Azis Mendago and the late Hagendors Mischayer. Also for Northern California are, Mr. LiGai Vandergroen, and the late Otto Vandergroen. Mr. Bung Sidarsono and Bapak Ungklit. The last, for Northern California, the late Tomasowa.

In Washington State, there is Mr. Jim Ingram, who teaches Mustika KweeTang and Cimande, and Pukulan.

In the mid 1960's, in Colorado, there was the late Carl C. Deerns, Willem de Thouars, and Wayne Welsh, also Valken Fisher, a Panmar expert.

Now in the mid 1970's and 1980's and present, there is, Mr. Eddy Jaffrey, Mr. Herman Suwanda, Mr. John Malter and Mr. William Sanders.

In particular, there is, Mr. Steven Plinck, Randall Goodwin, Sheikh Shamsuddin Salim, and many, many other individuals.
